Sloe Down takes its name from a drink that’s steeped in both berries and tradition: sloe gin. Made by infusing gin with the deep purple fruits of the blackthorn bush, sloe gin has long
been a wintry favourite. Its rich, jewel-toned warmth offering comfort through the coldest months. While traditionally bottled in autumn, it’s at Christmas that it truly shines—poured into tiny glasses, swirled into festive cocktails, or even baked into indulgent puddings.
Its connection to the season runs deeper than just timing. The practice of making sloe gin is slow and mindful. A gentle ritual of gathering, steeping, and waiting, much like the spirit of
winter crafting. And when shared with friends or slipped into a homemade hamper, it becomes a symbol of care, time, and thoughtfulness.
