The WoW Flock Diaries: The Beginning

Earlier this year we embarked on a new adventure. It’s something we’d been thinking about for a little while and once the opportunity arose we just couldn’t resist. 

People often ask where our wool comes from and we’re very proud to work with a huge number of expert shepherds and wool producers. Until now, our involvement has always been post-shearing once the sheep have been relieved of their fleeces.

Well, not anymore!

This year we started our own small flock of Wensleydales! We could have chosen any breed or crossbreed but we wanted something that shared our Yorkshire heritage and was also on the RBST Watchlist. The Wensleydale is currently in decline, with the population at its lowest since 2019 and we’re hoping that our little flock can play a small part in supporting the breed’s future.

Keeping sheep isn’t easy and we’re very lucky to have farming friends and family who are always on hand to offer support and guidance. Through this blog series you’ll be able to follow the progress of our flock and share the ups and downs of sheep keeping and husbandry. 

We hope to not only provide more of an insight into where your wool comes from, but also to give you an idea of the work that our woolgrowers (both the sheep and the people!) put in.
