Fibre Focus Friday: Fibre Fill

From wool to polyester, virgin fibre to recycled, we've got a fibre fill for every occasion.  Each of our fibre fills can be used to achieve different densities of stuffing for different projects; let's have a run down of the best uses for them.

Carded white lambswool is perfect for thos who want to achieve a smooth finish (with no lumps!) while using a natural fibre.  It also comes in EN71 and BS5852 compliance which makes it one of the best options for those who want to make toys for re-sale.  Items stuffed with this fibre will need careful washing as it will felt, so if possible it's a good idea to have the fibre in a removable inner.  For those who want something washable (though it will still need re-fluffing!) the next best option would be Carded Polyester; this synthetic fibre also comes with EN71 and BS852 certification so can be used for toy stuffing as well.  In some cases it is also used in pet beds which need frequent washing.

Where possible we like to carry recycled fibre fills.  These can be made from byproducts from our mill and are often a cost effective way of filling a project.  These don't always come with certification, so it is important to check this if it is something you need for your project.  Our recycled budget filling is often used for projects which need to be a bit more weighty and don't need to spring back or have an element of 'squish' to them.  It is made from yarn waste which is produced by shredding old/reject yarns (don't worry, we don't use yarns that could be craftable!) into smaller pieces.  This results in a filling which can be very dense and firm.

If you're unsure about which filling to use for your project you can get in touch with us and we'll be able to make sure you have the right stuffing for your project.
