World renowned fashion designer Alexander Wang has been photographed with a ram by Annie Leibovitz to show off his love of merino wool.
The rising star of American fashion posed for the photoshoot as part of his role as an advocate for Australian supplier The Woolmark Company's 'Merino Wool. No Finer Feeling' campaign, and later revealed it is one of his favourite materials to work with.
Wang, who won the Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year Award in 2009, will be doing much more for the promotion than just appearing in ads, as he plans to include pieces made from high-quality merino wool in his Autumn/Winter collections for both this year and 2014.
"I have used merino wool since I first started designing so collaborating with Woolmark was a natural fit for me," said Wang. "Wool has strong environmental credentials, and it feels modern and relevant."
The American is one of a number of big names from the fashion world involved in the campaign to promote merino wool as a luxury fibre for contemporary tailoring and inform younger people more used to synthetic fabrics of the benefits of natural products.
Designers Jean Paul Gaultier, Anne Valérie Hash and Atelier Gustavo Lins have also given their support, along with the Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Missoni brands.Watch
